Nina S. M. Crane
Owner and Principal Consultant

Nina has more than fifteen years of IT solutions experience, both in consulting and in a corporate IT environment. Prior to founding Kinetic Project Solutions (KPS), she was Director of Media Systems at the National Geographic Society. In that role, she was responsible for cross-divisional initiatives introducing new technology to the organization and numerous project implementations for digital magazine products, publishing workflow, advertising, marketing, and digital asset management systems. In addition, Nina's team supported more than 650 Macintosh workstations Society-wide. She was also responsible for FileMaker Pro custom systems development and support, specializing in editorial scheduling and payment tracking for magazines and books. Nina led a staff of thirteen project managers, developers, database administrators, and workstation support technicians and managed a $2 million annual budget. Most notably, Nina partnered with internal business units to formulate and present business cases for technology investments and won executive approval for 100% of the proposed capital projects worth in excess of $5 million.

Prior to joining National Geographic in 1997, Nina was a Consultant and Client Relationship Manager for American Management Systems (AMS), a leading Washington, DC-based systems consulting firm. During her tenure there, she lead teams of business analysts and programmers for a variety of custom system development and implementation projects for clients such as First USA Bank, Johnson & Johnson, the US Patent & Trademark Office, and the Library of Congress.

Nina completed the Stanford Professional Publishing Course at Stanford University in 2006. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Cornell University, where she concentrated in Marketing and IT and was invited to be a guest speaker in 2007. Nina also holds a Bachelor of Science, Engineering degree from Harvey Mudd College. From 1989-1991, she served as a Volunteer in the Peace Corps in Malawi, where she taught computer and mathematics classes, and prior to that worked as a mechanical engineer for Southern California Gas Company.
